Abstract

The impacts of pesticides on phototropic and heterotrophic microorganisms in rice field flood water and soil are discussed. The methodological aspects of the study of pesticide impacts on wetland soil microflora is summarized, with emphasis on the limitations of in vitro and small scale experiments. The factors that affect pesticide impact on rice field microflora are outlined. An analysis is presented of quantitative data originating from a database on microbiological aspects of pesticide use in rice fields.
