Abstract

The different approaches to sociobiological ecology in Anglo-American and continental European literature are noted. Publications on variously disturbed natural vegetation types and tendencies to synanthropization are increasing, emphasizing considerations for nature conservation and environmental control based on structural and floristic vegetation analysis. Recent publications are reviewed under the headings: monographs and bibliographies; methods and general results; application to nature conservation, landscape ecology and environmental control; vegetation of the boreal, temperate and submeridional, meridional, subtropical and tropical zones (including forests and shrublands, grasslands, savannas, dwarf shrub heaths, weed communities and ruderal vegetation).
