Abstract

The book, which is intended primarily as a basic text for students of toxicology is organised in 4 sections. In part 1 there is a discussion of the general principles of the discipline which looks into the origins of the subject, toxicological evaluation, absorption, distribution and excretion of toxicants as well as their metabolism and the various factors affecting toxicology. Part 2 deals with the systemics of toxicology and the various anatomic and physiological systems are individually treated. In the third part, there is a discussion of the various kinds of toxic agents, including what are called social poisons - the hallucinogenic agents etc. In the concluding section, the applications of toxicology are reviewed and are considered in five parts: clinical toxicology, forensic and veterinary toxicology, and toxicology and the law.
