Hydroinformatics, with its focus on using advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) to better understand and manage the aquatic environment, has much to offer the management of flooding in rivers. The paper reviews recent developments in handling information associated with flooding using ICT, with particular attention given to physically-based and data-driven modelling for flood prediction, the use of data management systems for forecasting and warning, and the use of decision support systems.
