Abstract

The Vessix Renal Denervation System (Boston Scientific Corporation, Natick, MA, USA) consists of a denervation catheter and radiofrequency generator. The catheter is a 90 cm long balloon-tipped catheter. The balloon is 25 mm long. The balloon diameters depend on the vessel size (4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm and 7 mm). Mounted on the surface of the balloon are (4-8, depending on the balloon size) bipolar radiofrequency electrodes distributed in a helical fashion emitting radiofrequency energy to a depth of a few millimeters into the renal artery. The catheter can be delivered over the wire into the renal artery via an 8F guide sheath (more common) or 9F guide catheter.
