Bisphenol A (BPA) oligocyclic carbonate (1) and polycarbonate were reacted with cyclosiloxanes to give copoly(siloxane/carbonate)s. The reaction of cyclocarbonate 1 with hexaphenylcyclotrisiloxane (2) at 210°C proceeded with decarboxylation to convert copoly(siloxane/carbonate) to poly(arylenesiloxane). In the reaction of BPA polycarbonate with cyclosiloxane 2, diphenylsiloxane units were favorably inserted into BPA polycarbonate to form copoly(siloxane/carbonate). This reaction was accompanied in part with decarboxylation to convert silylcarbonate into siloxane linkages. The reaction of BPA polycarbonate with decamethylcyclopentasiloxane used benzophenone as a solvent to obtain a homogeneous system. The decarboxylation proceeded with increasing insertion of dimethylsiloxane units. The reaction of BPA polycarbonate and polydimethylsiloxane gave a block-type copolymer.
