Abstract

This article describes biopsy procedure implemented in MentorEye system which aims at supporting surgeons during complex oncological treatment. Mainly, MentorEye system comprises of virtual planning phase using 3D virtual reality display, medical content presentation with the help of head mounted displays and finally different image modalities fusion such as CT (Computed Tomography) and fluorescence. Tumor treatment involves an individual approach and in some cases biopsy is required to determine further procedure steps. Limited time during real surgery and restricted visibility causes that an initial preparation is needed. In this paper we show virtual planning algorithm steps with further intraoperative realization under the control of the optical navigation system.
