Abstract

Some efficient two-dimensional digital filters are reviewed and the design methods of FIR and IIR digital filters are summarized. Also discussed is the application of these filters to biomedical image processing to perform image smoothing or enhancement and to reduce the amount of data (in combination with fast digital transformations). Some experimental result pertaining to conventional radiographs and computer tomographic images are reported.
