In a prospective study of 700 postacute myocardial infarction patients receiving optimal beta blocker therapy, heart rate variability and baroreflex sensitivity did not predict the occurrence of sudden cardiac death, which was weakly predicted only by reduced ejection fraction, nonsustained ventricular tachycardia, and abnormal signal-averaged electrocardiogram.
