This contribution is a commentary on Taḿas Budav́ari's paper, "On statistical cross-identification in astronomy," presented at the Statistical Challenges in Modern Astronomy V conference held at Pennsylvania State University in June 2011. I describe multilevel Bayesian treatments of this problem developed for identifying gamma ray burst counterparts. © Springer Science+Business Media New York 2013.
