Abstract

This paper presents a tool spnps for perfect sampling (PS) in stochastic Petri nets (SPN). SPNs are an important formalism for performance evaluation of telecommunication systems and computer hardware and software architectures. Stochastic process underlying an SPN is a continuous time Markov chain, and the tool obtains samples from this chain, distributed according to its stationary probability distribution. The tool is implemented in C++ and is based on an efficient implementation of coupling from the past, an algorithm for PS in Markov chains.
