With the advancement of the information technology, Internet becomes an essential part in our every sphere of life. However, the benefits of Internet are limited to only educated people who can read and write in English or atleast in their own mother languages. This work addresses this limitation and proposes an icon-based user interface so that low educated people can retrieve information from the Internet. Our proposed interface supports user to compose their queries by means of selecting icons. How such interface can be designed in the context of information retrieval related to tourism domain is addressed in this paper. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
