Abstract

The basilar papilla is the high-frequency auditory papilla in the frog inner ear. We show that the tectorial membrane in the basilar papilla has a frequency selective responds that corresponds to that of auditory neurons. These results show that frequency selectivity in the papilla is based on the mechanical tuning of the tectorial membrane. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
