Abstract

The different methods for studying rarefied gas dynamics in low speed flows were reviewed in the present paper. They are broadly classified as two approaches: microscopic and macroscopic. The capability of the moment method is demonstrated through applications of geometrically simple but complex flows. The paper has shown that the regularized 26 moment system can capture non-equilibrium effects for Knudsen numbers up to a unity. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
