Abstract

The influence of the concentration of 1-Butyl-4-methylpyridinium tetrafluoroborate (4MBPBF4) as ionic liquid (IL) on the corrosion of copper in 0.5 M PO 4 3- solutions of pH 2 and 4 was studied. The research involved electrochemical polarization method, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. The results obtained showed that the inhibition efficiency of corrosion of copper increases with an increase in the concentration of 4MBPBF4 but decreases with increasing temperature. The thermodynamic functions of corrosion analysis and adsorptive behavior of 4MBPBF4 were carried out. During the test, the adsorption of the inhibitor on the copper surface in the phosphate solutions was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and had a physical mechanism. © 2011 M.
