The article attempts to make a contribution to the practical biblical hermeneutics focusing on the actual praxis, especially exploring the field of synchronic studies, rather than on the theory of interpretation. It also aims at offering an insight to the hermeneutic methods of the New Testament tradition, approaching the hermeneutic praxis of the biblical writers through the judeo-christian midrash paths. The accomplish such an objective, the author focuses on the biblical text of Philip's encounter with the minister of the queen of Ethiopia (Acts, 8, 20-40) as the hermeneutic guide and source to illustrate the principles being exposed. Philip's question "Can you really understand what you are reading?" serves as leitmotif to this process, as the biblical hermeneutics is a way of reading inwhich the scriptures are self-interpreted. The author pays especial attention to the categories and tools of interpreatation which have developed as from the latest literary underpinnings in the field of the biblical exegesis
