Abstract

As of now, the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is a national leader in the implementation and development of sustainable building and renewable energy technology. The colleges and satellites of the district feature numerous Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified buildings, and more importantly 100% of the energy need will be met through the use of cutting-edge renewable energy generation and energy storage technology. The story of the transition from being an aging educational colossus to a gleaming example of the best that architecture and technology can offer follows. © 2009 Springer-Verlag New York.
