Adolescents are involved in multiple, rich literacies outside the classroom, some of which are engaged with in the classroom. But policymakers have codified literacy in increasingly narrow ways. Chapter examines policy-making in Queensland at state level and at federal level in US to raise questions about their assumptions and purposes.
