Abstract

In general, incisional hernias should be repaired, as they tend to enlarge over time. The main complication of repairing incisional hernias is recurrence, which can occur up to 40% of the time, in some series. Mesh repair is typically indicated to provide a tension-free repair and reduce the risk of recurrence, although mesh repairs are associated with an increased risk of infection [1]. © Springer-Verlag London Limited 2010.
