The aim of this paper is to present Ingarden's philosophy which was inspired by what he considered to be the weakness of Husserl's system. The paper consists of the following parts: biographical information; a dispute with Husserl; existential and formal ontology (which he sets against metaphysics); epistemology; aesthetics; anthropology; the philosophy of language. The reception of Roman Ingarden's philosophy varies from apologetic to extremely critical views. However, his inspiration in the field of philosophy and humanities cannot be overestimated. The greatness of Ingarden's philosophy is manifested in what sprouts from it.
