Abstract

This chapter examines the history of the field of chemical ecology and along the way provides concepts and interesting scientific stories. The chemical ecology examples involve several kingdoms involving positive and negative inter- actions. The scientific instruments and techniques that have facilitated the advance of this field are portrayed. The information presented in this chapter provides an introduction to the concepts that will be depicted throughout the book.
