The article reports on the challenges and issues that need to be addressed by academic publishers concerning the acquisition of electronic books (eBooks) in the U.S. It was shown that in 2006, electronic books have faced increasing demand from various publishers. The reasons for such growth was brought by easier access to relevant information by just typing keywords and allows portability and convenience in reading. However, it states that the application of eBook offers financial burdens to publishers considering the payment for its application and the budget allocated by academic institutions. It was shown that the development of standards and educating library staff on the significant use of eBooks to users can help enhance the services offered by libraries to customers.
