One of the challenges for distance learning teachers is to be able to assess the emotional expressions of their students in Learning Management Systems (LMS). Modern LMS use formal languages in the assessment process, such as questions and answers, readings, among others, however, they are not able to consider the emotional reactions expressed by the student during the assessment process. In this context, we propose a software architecture and solution that uses SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) tools in order to integrate LMS with services of emotions expression analysis software. Our solution analyzes images from webcams at the time the remote assessment activity is performed, and it generates reports on Moodle LMS to provide feedback for teachers. We expect the teacher can analyze the students’ emotional reactions in assessment activities and adapt its content for higher engagement of students in remote activities. The proposed solution was evaluated by experts, students, and lecturers in a real learning scenario. The evaluation shows predominant emotional expressions, and positive results regarding the feasibility, usefulness, and acceptance of the prototype.
