The electronic absorption spectrum of pyrene in boric acid glass before and after irradiation with uv light has been studied in the region 200-1400 nm. The spectrum of the irradiated film of pyrene has been attributed to its monopositive ion. The results are in good agreement with those of the other workers. The effect of temperature during and after irradiation of the ionic species is also discussed and it has been found that the photo-oxidation of pyrene in the boric acid glass is a reversible process.
