Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) reduces the occurrence of arterial thromboembolism during primary and secondary prophylaxis [1].However, a considerable number of patients still experience recurrent ischemic events during ASA therapy. Lack of compliance, insufficient absorption or altered pharmacodynamics might contribute to recurrence in spite of anti-platelet therapy in these patients. In this study platelet function was tested in 76 ASA treated patients using two different monitoring methods based on whole blood. © 2007 Springer Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
