Abstract

The ultimate goal of invasions biology should be to generate a body of general, predictive theory. Ideally, such theory would help determine whether a species with a particular set of traits will be able to invade a given system. In its almost fifty years, the discipline has seen many attempts to provide such predictability through a focus on the traits of the potential invaders and those of the invaded community. Regrettably, most attempts have been so far unsuccessful. © 2006 Springer. All Rights Reserved.
