Abstract

Carbon dioxide of the order of 0.5-1 X 106 t/yr emerges from the whole Eifel region. Carbon isotope studies indicate a magmatic source; locally, isotopic alteration is caused by kinetic fractionation in unsaturated water bodies.-J.M.H.
