Abstract

Aim: Interoceptive awareness refers to the conscious perception of internal bodily states. The aim of the present work was the validation of the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA). Method: The data was collected from a non-probabilistic sample of 755 subjects. The MAIA is originally constituted by 32 items (divided in eight dimensions) with the possibility of response being on a 6-point Likert scale. The study of the metric qualities of this instrument was made in two different subsamples by using exploratory (N = 376) and confirmatory factor analysis (N = 379). Results: A structure different from the original was obtained, which maintains the psychological meaning and adequate validity, sensitivity and reliability. Conclusion: Four dimensions present in the original version were obtained (Attentional Regulation; Emotional Awareness; Body Listening; Trusting).
