Magnetic induction plethysmogram comprises the time course of electromagnetic power absorbed in a patient's body on the induction of eddy currents there. Time variation of the plethysmogram is caused by physiological processes in the body region close to the transducer's inductor coil: displacement of organs, variation of their shape, volume redistribution processes of body liquids. Depending on the location of the transducer, the signal waveforms have different shapes and magnitudes. This report gives an overview of a study of the variation of the magnetic induction plethysmogram and Foucault cardiogram (i.e. a variant, if the transducer is positioned in the heart region) waveform and magnitude on a supine human thoracic front surface. © Springer-Verlag 2007.
