Abstract

Diarrhoeal infections can be caused by many etiol. agents, but mainly by enterobacteria esp. Salmonella. The Mexican population uses medicinal plants. esp. to treat diseases in the digestive tract. Piqueria trinervia Cav. is a perennial herb of the family Asteraceae that grows commonly in Mexico and Central America. It is employed to treat diarrhea, dysentery, intestinal infections, stomach pain, and typhoid fever. The biol. and chem. study of this plant is described in the present chapter. [on SciFinder(R)]
