Abstract

During recent years, there has been a growing interest in the field of employment relations in the use of mediation as an important way to resolve disputes in the workplace. In this discussion, we address first the developments in the field of workplace mediation and its relation to the changing nature of employment relations and workplace mediation. In doing so, we refer to social exchange theory (Blau 1964; Munduate et al. 2016). Another important issue to explore is the effectiveness of workplace mediation, and on a broader level the effectiveness of organizational dispute systems. In order to assess the effectiveness of mediation, we build further on the 'geometry of workplace mediation', where geometry is used as a metaphor to describe the landscape of conflicts.
