One of the frontiers when studying complex and nanostructured materials is the characterization of structure on the nanoscale. We describe how the atomic pair distribution function analysis of powder diffraction data can be used to this end, and what kind of structural information can be obtained in different situations. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.
