Implementing education for sustainable development in higher education: Case study of albukhary international university, Malaysia

Abstract

Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) are an essential component of the governance for any institute of higher education, especially in a multifaceted area such as sustainability. The measuring criteria and the tools needed to conduct the assessment process are entirely dependent on the purpose for which the assessment is being carried out, and the objectives and scope of the assessment should be well defined before the assessment takes place. In the case of sustainability assessment, the aim should be creating a balance between the key elements of sustainability, namely environment, society and economy. The needs and concerns of each institute of higher education may vary, however the above three elements can be considered as the core components of any sustainability assessment globally.
