Abstract

Logistics is an important construct of supply chain management. Advancements in the logistics domain with specialized services and external pressures such as globalization and customer demand volatility have triggered the use of third-party logistics. It proves to be a unique and effective engagement creating a win—win for all the stakeholders. The need for real-time data is irrefutable and therefore researchers have proposed the implementation of the Internet of Things. The findings of the study have cemented the concept of amalgamation of Internet of Things and 3PL. The benefits include cost savings, real-time visibility of material as well as vehicle, just in time, flexible manufacturing systems, and most importantly customer satisfaction and an increase in market share.
