Abstract

This paper will describe an experimental situation analogous to the conditions of psychoanalysis and offer rating devices for use in studying some of the issues surrounding psychoanalysis in particular and psychotherapy in general. Before doing so, however, I propose to examine the history of methodological developments in research in psychotherapy and to consider the requirements for avoiding violation of the phenomena under study.
