Photo-Elicitation: Unleashing Imagery in Healthcare Research

Abstract

This chapter is addressed to healthcare researchers who have an interest in incorporating photography in their projects. The focus is on photo-elicitation techniques and the rationale for applying them to various areas of health research. Practical steps to effectively embed elements of photography into the research design are presented, along with highlighting the benefits of photo-elicitation techniques for both researchers and research participants. Ethical considerations, challenges, and potential limitations of photography-based research are critically discussed. Finally, exercises and questions for healthcare researchers are included at the end of the chapter to help them reflect on implementing photography-based methods in their projects.
