Hydro Med Sciences has developed a subcutaneous reservoir hydrogel implant capable of long term delivery of predetermined doses of various active compounds. The implant Is a small-diameter, thin-walled cylindrical capsule containing a therapeutic agent. The hydrogels used for this application were Hydron® type copolymers of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). These non-erodible hydrogels are known to be biocompatible, swell reversibly in an aqueous environment, resist biodegradation and do not support microbial growth.
