Abstract

The rapid use of Internet has led to the investigation of digital watermarking as a complementary technology to traditional protection mechanisms. Significant research efforts and review works presenting unifying characteristics of different methods have been reported for audio and image watermarking. In the context of video watermarking, though, there is a great deal of non-uniformity in presented approaches. The objective in this paper is to give an in-depth overview of different video watermarking techniques in order to single out the particularities of that field. Furthermore, the paper presents a benchmarking framework for objective video watermarking performance evaluation. We conclude that novel techniques need to be implemented and unexplored video-driven approaches have to be investigated. © 2006 International Federation for Information Processing.
