Abstract

Two ripening induced cDNAs encoding ethylene biosynthetic enzymes 1 aminocyclopropane 1 carboxylate synthase (acacc 1) and 1 aminocyclopropane 1 carboxylate oxidoreductase (acaco 1) were isolated from non climacteric pineapple [Ananas comosus] fruits. Southern analysis suggested the presence of only one copy of acacc 1 and one or two copies of acaco 1 in the pineapple genome. Expression of acacc 1 increased 16 fold in ripe fruit tissue compared to green fruits, while acaco 1 was mainly induced in wounded leaf tissue.
