Abstract

Clinical research is a vital component when developing new therapies for patients as it provides evidence that they are safe and effective. The complexity and regulatory requirements for clinical trials explain why there is a multitude of stakeholders involved and why there are many job opportunities in this field. This chapter provides an overview of what clinical research is, the different types of studies, and what activities are needed to complete a clinical trial. An overview of stakeholders is provided and for each stakeholder what kind of positions exist. The positions are explained, and the required skills are discussed. Finally, guidance on how to start a career in clinical research is provided.
