In Switzerland, 34% of all trees were regarded as no longer healthy. In Austria at least 1/3 of the trees investigated were found to be damaged. These figures, however, should not be regarded as universally applicable, since the survey from which they stem focused on Norway spruce Picea abies and was not representative of all regions. In the Italian province of South Tyrol, the state of health of the forests, as reflected by only 20% damage in Norway spruce, appeared better. Forests of the Vosges and the Jura in France, in contrast, seemed to be more severely affected, with only 60% of the trees still healthy. -from Author
