Abstract

The geological environment in North Malay Basin is very complex, with thousands of small discontinuous gas reservoirs in the high density of faults. To fully develop the gas potential in certain areas, hundreds of wells will be needed annually. Furthermore, the typical long-term gas sales agreement and requirements of gas quality that leads to complex operations and planning conditions. Hence, development of gas fields in this area have unique challenges. Real time development strategy to maximize the value of the gas field development has successfully been used and production forecast modelling plays a critical role in scheduling drilling projects. The production forecast modelling approach needs extensive knowledge of the geological environment and resources potential, associated with drilling and operations practices, cost, schedule, as well as surface facilities. This requires interaction across multiple disciplines to make sure a reliable planning and eventually, enough production capability to safely and reliably meet the gas market demand and the quality. In brief, this is to share the fit-for-purpose approach to rapidly create drilling schedule scenarios for production optimization and planning, to support making the right decisions to optimize development and maximize the value for the field development.
