Abstract

The monoclinic α-NaMnO 2 can be successfully prepared by a simple high-temperature solid-phase method. Herein, we use instrumental techniques to characterize and investigate its performance as a cathode material for hybrid Na/Li-ion batteries, demonstrating that the obtained product comprises ~100-nm-sized particles and is a mixture of α-NaMnO 2 and P2-Na 0.7 MnO 2 . Electrochemical performance testing reveals the presence of well-pronounced charge and discharge plateaus in charge/discharge curves and shows that the highest initial discharge capacity of 195.6 mAh/g (at 2-4 V and 12.2 mAh/g) is observed for α-NaMnO 2 prepared by 12-h sintering at 800 °C and decreases to 100.9 mAh/g after 30 cycles.
