In addition to the most relevant aspects of his life and academic career, we offer a panoramic view of his scientific work in fields such as singularity theory, commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, or coding theory. We also stress that his endeavors have been closely linked to an important work of research training, from which a thriving school has emerged.
