Abstract

Remote sensing of obscured objects has withdrawn attention from numerous fields. Depending on the nature of the specific applications, various approaches employing acoustical or electromagnetic (EM) waves have been developed. One such approach is the time-reversal (TR) technique which has originally been introduced in acoustics and involves the retransmission of signals acquired by a set of transceivers in a time-reversed fashion to exploit the invariance of the wave equation under TR. In this work, we review the TR-based signal processing techniques to achieve ultra-wideband (UWB) EM detection and imaging for distinct objects (targets) embedded in inhomogeneous media. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2010.
