Single crystal X-ray diffraction has often been regarded as a somewhat specialized technique with limited industrial application because of the need to grow single crystals of a suitable size and quality. This talk will outline how this much maligned technique can be utilized to deliver powerful results, in a timely manner, to ensure a deeper understanding of the structure of the API and its relevant forms. This data can be crit. in polymorph selection and evaluation of physicochem. properties. This talk will focus on the following aspects: (1) Utilization of single crystal data in a polymorph selection project, (2) the use of supporting data to ensure correct interpretation, and (3) use of single crystal X-ray data to strengthen the patent and regulatory position.
