PENDAMPINGAN DAN PEMBERDAYAAN MASYARAKAT DALAM PENGOLAHAN BISNIS LADA DI KECAMATAN BIATAN KABUPATEN BERAU, KALIMANTAN TIMUR

Abstract

ABSTRAKPotensi lada di Kabupaten Berau, lebih banyak ditemukan di Kecamatan Biatan. Meskipun demikian, komoditas ini sebagian besar masih dihasilkan dengan teknik penanganan pascapanen tradisional (peralatan sederhana dan dilakukan kurang higienis).  Kegiatan pendampingan dan pemberdayaan masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan petani mengenai teknik budidaya dan pengolahan bisnis lada di Kecamatan Biantan, Kabupaten Berau, Kalimantan Timur.  Rantai pasar yang cukup panjang juga turut menyebabkan pendapatan petani dari tanaman perkebunan rakyat menjadi rendah. Produk utama komoditas lada yang diperdagangkan secara internasional adalah lada putih (white pepper) dan lada hitam (black pepper). Di sisi lain, komitmen konservasi masyarakat adat dan lokal di Kalimantan sangat besar yang didampingi oleh salah satu lembaga Konservasi YKAN (Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara).  Hal ini salah satunya bisa dilihat dari skema Perhutanan Sosial (PS), di Kalimantan Timur pada tahun 2019 telah menyentuh angka 140.931 hektar.  Hasil monitoring tahun 2018 bersama pihak terkait dari dinas Perkebunan menunjukkan sebanyak 73% kampung Perhutanan Sosial di kabupaten Berau dan Kutai Timur mampu mencegah deforestasi. Di Kabupaten Berau, hutan alam masih menutupi 75% dari 2,2 juta hektar luas wilayah daratan. Katakunci: pengolahan bisnis lada; potensi lada di Kabupaten Berau; lada putih dan hitam. ABSTRACTThe potential for pepper in Berau Regency is found more in Biatan District. Nonetheless, most of these commodities are still produced using traditional postharvest handling techniques (simple equipment and less hygienic practices). This community assistance and empowerment activity aims to increase farmers' knowledge about pepper cultivation and business processing techniques in Biantan District, Berau Regency, East Kalimantan. The market chain which is quite long also causes the income of farmers from smallholder plantations to be low. The main pepper products traded internationally are white pepper and black pepper. On the other hand, the conservation commitment of indigenous and local communities in Kalimantan is very large, which is accompanied by one of the Conservation organizations YKAN (Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara). This can be seen from the Social Forestry (PS) scheme, in East Kalimantan in 2019 it has touched 140,931 hectares. Monitoring results in 2018 with related parties from the Plantations service showed that as many as 73% of Social Forestry villages in Berau and East Kutai districts were able to prevent deforestation.
