SMS and CRM: Parallels and Opposites in their Evolution

Abstract

The article focuses on the improvements of airline industry's crew resource management (CRM) and safety management systems (SMS) to ensure the safety of its airline flights and customers. Topics discussed include the historical and practical relationship of CRM and SMS, how the two programs would enhance aviation safety and air traffic management strategies. It also emphasizes that CRM and SMS aids airline personnel to manage and control possible air hazards, errors and risks.
