Abstract

We investigate competitive exclusion between two reproductively isolated yearclasses in the Leslie matrix model for a semelparous biennial population. Our results show that competitive exclusion occurs if competition is more severe between than within year-classes. Our criterion is applicable even if the model exhibits complex behavior.
