Abstract

For the derivation of equations which allow an approximative calculation of pH values, it is again necessary to refer to the reactions of a monobasic acid HB in water:$$ {\rm HB} + {{{\rm H}}_2}{\rm O}\ \rightleftarrows\ {{{\rm B}}^{-}} + {{{\rm H}}_3}{{{\rm O}}^{+}} $$$$ {{{\rm H}}_2}{\rm O} + {{{\rm H}}_2}{\rm O}\ \rightleftarrows\ {\rm O}{{{\rm H}}^{-}} + {{{\rm H}}_3}{{{\rm O}}^{+}} $$
